My Story
I have pursued a lifelong career in art and design spanning more than four decades, beginning with my studies at Blackpool School of Art and then earning a degree in Graphic Design at Kingston University. After graduating, I joined Springetts Brand Design Consultants in London, where I became a director and helped grow the agency into an internationally recognised brand design business. After a decade working independently as a freelance brand design consultant, I have recently returned to hands-on image-making, seeking the creative freedom of my early art school days.
My practice is rooted in visual communication, often blending typography, illustration, and concept, and I continue to practise life drawing, which informs my portraiture work. I am drawn to exploring the relationship between word and image, influenced by the calligraphy of my mother, the tradition of book illustration, and portraiture artists such as Garth Reid and Duncan Shoosmith. My work is shaped by language, culture, and the everyday world around me.
While my work is diverse and eclectic, I have a deep love of animals, from cherished pets to wild creatures of all kinds, a passion that shines through in many of my artworks. I accept private commissions, including hand-lettering and pet portraits, with pricing dependent on medium, size, and the time required to produce each unique piece.
