I was drawn to the quiet self-containment of this pose — arms folded, weight settled, the figure leaning lightly against the wall behind. Using wax crayon on paper, I let the warm line describe the full length of the body with searching, confident marks, the diagonal floor lines grounding the figure in space and giving the composition a sense of place as well as presence.
