Dillon is my brother's standard poodle. I wanted to reflect the character of his beloved pet: warm, alert, a little soulful. I kept the background loose and atmospheric so that nothing would compete with his intent gaze. The topknot was a great challenge, layering cream and gold to capture the effect of the light. His eyes I saved for last. Acrylics dry fast and demand commitment, and I needed to know the rest of the painting before I could give him that look.
